Melissa is a great city located in Collin County, Texas, United States. It is situated in north-central Collin county. On the southwest of Melissa is Dallas, and on the north is Denison. As far as the beautiful city's history is concerned, the first few settlers of Melissa came from the old highland community. It is situated in the north, around two and a half miles from present-day Melissa. In 1853 a post office was established at highland. It was the year 1872 when the Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived in the community. There are two opinions regarding the name of the town. One believes that the town has been named after the daughter of a railroad executive. In contrast, according to another opinion, the town was named after Melissa Huntington, who was the daughter of C.P Huntington, again another railroad executive.

The total density of the community is 1,058.07 per square mile, while it lies at an elevation of about 679 ft—the area codes and the zip codes 972 and 75071, 75454, respectively.
